Migrating Email from Google Apps Legacy Free

Google recently anounced that the G Suite legacy free edition will no longer be available starting July 1, 2022. According to the notice linked above google will “begin upgrading subscriptions automatically on May 1, 2022.”

You may choose to pay for google workspace services. The Business Starter plan is listed as $6 per user per month.

To transfer previous your email to a new account I recommend the following steps.

You will need to first go to manage your google account for the account you will be migrating from.

Go to Security

Select App Passwords

Select option to create a mail password and name it as you wish.

Make a note of the generated app password.

Now open the Gmail account that you are migrating from and open the Gmail settings.

Select Forwarding & Pop/IMAP and then enable pop download for all mail. Click to save changes.

Open your new email account. (Create a new account if you haven’t already done so.) Open settings and navigate to Accounts and Import. Under “Send mail as” select “Add another email address”.

Under “Check mail from other accounts” Select “Add a mail account”
Fill in account information.

Once all of your domain users have completed these steps please contact us and we will assist with domain level settings for email forwarding, provide you with further instructions for email settings, and when appropriate cancel your Google Apps Legacy Free subscription.
